How it keeps count
The tool stores one number: everything you have counted since the last full reset. The current round and the number of completed rounds are worked out from that, which is why changing the target never loses anything. It only regroups the same total into rounds of a different size.
That sounds like a technical detail, and it is, but it is the difference between a counter you can trust with a long session and one that quietly throws work away when you adjust a setting.
Where the count lives
In your browser, on this device. It survives closing the tab and restarting the computer. It is not sent to a server, which also means it does not follow you to another device, and clearing your browser data will clear it.
Using it without looking
The circle is a button: tab to it and press Enter or Space. The count is announced as it changes, so it can be used with a screen reader, and the whole thing works on a phone without needing to aim at anything small.
